João Carlos Alves

João Alves is from Pousada de Saramagos, in Famalicão, Portugal.


He graduated with a B.A., and then a Masters, in French Horn, at ESML and was mentored by Javier Bonet in Madrid.


In 1998, João was invited by Lisbon’s School of Music to represent Portugal in the "Erasmus Brass Ensemble".


He has played with several national orchestras and has toured all over the world, in countries such as: Spain, France, England, Czech Republic and Brazil.


João Alves is a soloist at the Musical Focus Didactic Orchestra.


He has performed solo many times - music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Mozart, Cherubini, Schumann and F. Strauss.


João is a French Horn teacher at the Conservatory of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, in Linda-a-Velha and at Óbidos Music Academy.


He is a soloist at the Symphonic Band of the Public Security Police, in Portugal.


João is also a founding member, together with flutist Ana Carina Sousa, of the chamber group "Memory".


Composers such as Sergio Azevedo, Abel Chaves and Fonseca e Costa have composed work for him.  


João has composed for French horn, and his work has been published by Ava Editions, amongst others.
