Fernando Ribeiro (1972 - )

Born in Freamunde, 1972. He began his musical studies at age 8, with Prof. José Luis Pacheco. In 1986, he joined the Centro de Cultura Musical das Caldas da Saúde, in Prof. Jose A. Macedo Trumpet class. He joined the Professional Arts School of Vale do Ave in 1989, where from 1991 he joined Prof. Kevin Wauldron Trumpet class. Concluded his Wind Instrumentalist Course (12th year) with a 20 points rating at the Trumpet discipline.

He joined the Orchestra Artave as 1st Trumpet; the Orchestra of the Music Schools; was invited to the Portuguese Youth Orchestra; North Orchestra. He collaborated with the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Porto. In the last one, he won the 1st place in the Competition for Orchestra reinforcements. In 1994, he was selected for the "Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée". He presented himself as soloiat  with the orchestra Artave, Orchestra Sinfonieta da E.S.M.A.E. and the Beiras Philharmonic Orchestra. He participated in several orchestra stages under the direction of Maestros like: Emilio Caesar, Ernest Schelle, Helder Trefzer, Omri Hadari, Michael Zillm, among others. He has performed  in major concert halls of Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Macau.

He participated in Improvement courses with renowned trumpeters which can be highlighted - Orti Soriano, Fred Mills, Philip Smith, Allen Vizutti, Thomas Stevens and Hakan Hardenberger.

Was a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

In his chamber music activity has participated in several Metals groups: Awarded in August 1994, in the competition “Prémio Jovens Músicos”, R.D.P. ;the following year won the 1st place (2nd Prize) - Soloist Higher Education Trumpet of R.D.P. He is a founding member of the Quinteto de Metais do Porto. 

He directed the Wind Orchestra of the University of Aveiro (2004-2006) and the Orquestra de Sopros da Federação Transmontano Duriense de Bandas Filarmónicas – Vila Real - in 2007. He directed Grupo de Metais “Concentus Musicus” at the Foundation of the Regional Conservatory of Gaia and the Orquestra de Metais do Conservatório Música de Braga in several events in this city.

Since 1994 he teaches trumpet at the Fundação Conservatório Regional de Gaia and from 1996 at the Conservatório Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga.

He taught trumpet at the Escola Profissional de Música/Academia de Música de Viana do Castelo, the Escola Profissional de Música/Academia de Música de Espinho and Academia de Música Valentim Moreira de Sá – Guimarães.

Guided Improvement Courses in Academia de Música de Lousada, Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Aveiro, Conservatório de Música de Coimbra, Escola Profissional de Música de Mirandela, A. B. C. R. de Mamarrosa e Academia de Paços de Brandão. He was invited jury in the 1st Trumpet Competition of Castelo de Paiva Academy of Music (1999) and the Metals Contest Aveiro district, organized by the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis (2006/2007).

It is Jury President of the National Competition for Wind Instruments - Terras de La Sallette - in Oliveira de Azeméis. In 2010, he was a member of the Jury in the Trumpet Contest Luso-Galician, organized by the Banda de Musica de Revelhe de Fafe.

He held the 1st Trumpet function - Soloist A – at the Beiras’ Philharmonic Orchestra - 1998/2005.

He taught Trumpet, Music Literature, Specific Pedagogy and Chamber Music at the University of Aveiro. He teaches trumpet and chamber music at the Piaget Institute of Mirandela and was the Master's Coordinator in Instrument Pedagogy.


He has a degree in Degree of Trumpet by the Music Academy of Arts and Entertainment (E. S. E. M. A.) of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. He completed the Master's Thesis on 19/12/2008 - Good with Distinction - Master in Psychology, Psychology Specialization  of Music - University of Porto, Faculty of Psychology and Polytechnic Institute of Porto, School of Education.
