Gisela Sequeira

Gisela Sequeira was born in Setúbal, in 1975.


She completed the supplementary course of piano at Setúbal Regional Conservatorium, under the supervision of Fernando Serro and the First Degree in Composition at the Lisbon Higher School of Music, where she studied with António Pinho Vargas, Christopher Bochmann, Sérgio Azevedo, Eurico Carrapatoso, among others. 

She attended the VIII Composition Course of Contemporary Music History, at Vila do Conde, with the composer Jorge Peixinho, and several courses of Choir Direction and Choir Pedagogy with the conductors (maestros) António Lourenço, Paulo Lourenço, Cara Tasher, Eugene Rogers and Ghislaine Morgan. 

She also worked with Roberto Perez at Lisbon Higher School of Music, where she attended the chair of Choir Direction.

Promoted and attended some Singing Tecnics Courses with the singers Rui Baeta and Ângela Silva. 

She has been teaching Composition Techniques and Analysis, Musical Training, History of Music and Group Class (Choir) in several schools and conservatoriums.

In 2001 she was the Pedagogic Director of Tomar Conservatorium of Music.

Between 2005 and 2009, she was the Pedagogic Director at the Alcobaça Academy of Music where she promoted the first Academic Choir Encounter of Alcobaça, which is still happening up to these days at the Alcobaça Monastery.

She founded and was the Pedagogic Director of the Montijo Regional Conservatorium of Arts. She was the Pedagogic Director of Setúbal Coral Arts Conservatorium Luísa Todi, between 2011 and 2013 as well.

Until July 2010, she formed and directed the mixed choir for the Philarmonic Society “Progresso e Labor Samouquense, which had initiated its activity in October 2006.

She was a conductor assistant of the Luisa Todi Choir between April 2004 and June Junho de 2007, having taken the job of Artistic Director and Main Conductor in October of the same year.

In 2013, she founded the Chamber Choir “Flor de Sal”, at Samouco.

Between 2008 and 2010, she attended the Masters in Choir Direction at Piaget Institute with the professors Paulo Lourenço, Cara Tasher, Stephen Coocker, Jean Sebastien Béreau, with the coordination of Paulo Lourenço. She held her final test of Conductor in July 2010 with the choir Luísa Todi, at S. Julião Church, in Setúbal, with John Rutter’s cantata “Gloria” (with the Brass Ensemble of the National Republican Guard’s Symphonic Band contribution), amongst other pieces (Vaughan Williams, E. Elgar,M. Duruflé). Jean Sebastien Béreau was her mentor.

She has taken the Direction of Palmela’s Humanitarian Philarmonic Society choir since July 2013.

She is currently attending the in-service training at Universidade Aberta (school year 2015-2016).
