Tiago Marques (1972 -)

TIAGO MARQUES studied Piano and Singing at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional (EMCN). He got a Bachelor Diploma in Composition at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML), a License Diploma in Choir Conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied with Daniel Reuss e Jos van Veldhoven, and a Masters Diploma in Choir Conducting at the ESML, where he studied with Paulo Lourenço.

He followed several courses and workshops with, among others, Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinhan, Kim Nazarian, Phil Mattson, Michele Weir, Jens Johanssen, Anders Edenroth, Ward Swingle, Jonathan Rathbone and Tijs Krammer. He conducted and rehearsed choirs with repertoire in many different styles – opera, symphonic, early music, modern music and close harmony, among others – in Portugal, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. He was also a singer in several high quality choirs and ensembles: Camerata Vocal de Lisboa, Gulbenkian Choir, Lisboa Cantat Chamber Choir, Dekoor Close Harmony, On Air Vocal Group and Grupo Vocal Downtown. He is a Choir teacher at the EMCN since 2005. At the moment he conducts Coro da Ermida, from Paço de Arcos, the vocal group Jazz Cantat, which he founded in 2014, and the choir Musaico, which he founded in 2008 at the EMCN.


He is a composer and arranger as well, writing a large part of the works he conducts. His arrangement of “Manhã de Carnaval” (“A Day In The Life Of A Fool”) was awarded the Best Arrangement prize at the International Vocal Group Festival 2004, in Tilburg, the Netherlands, and his works have been recorded by groups such as the choir Ricercare, the Lisboa Cantat Chamber Choir, Dekoor Close Harmony, Figomaduro and On Air Vocal Group.
