Francisco Sá de Noronha (1820-1881)

Early on presented as a violinist, and finding difficulty in being posted in Oporto’s theatres, he leaves for Brazil. He returns to Europe in 1850 already with an earned reputation as a distinguished violin player. In 1854, as regent of Teatro da Rua dos Condes, he performs musical plays of his authorship. Besides the operas and the numerous musical theatre plays, Sá de Noronha also wrote vocal pieces, caprices, fantasies and variations for violin and orchestra, and for violin and piano. His work was presented at the Theatres of S. João, da Rua dos Condes and Baquet. Sá de Noronha returns one last time to Brazil where he passes away.
