Rogério Medeiros (1979 - )

Rogério Medeiros has began his musical studies in 1989 in Ponta Delgada´s Regional Conservatory.

In 1998 he studied Composition in The Lisbon Superior Music School (ESML) withSérgio Azevedo, Carlos Fernandes, Christopher Bochmann and concluded his master degree with António Pinho Vargas.

Studied Cello with: Michael Ross, Maxim Doujak, Teresa Portugal and concluded his master degree at ESML under the guidance of Clélia Vital.

Was a member of the Youth Symphonic Orchestra from 1998 to 2004 playing all over the country and also participated in Tianjin youth Festival, in China, during the summer of 2002. In 2005 he was distinguished with an honorable mention in the João Pedro Oliveira National Composition Contest with the piece Melodrama Musical, for 10 instruments. In this same year was the premiere of Versos by the group Violonseis in auditory 2 of Gulbenkian Foundation.He participated in the Composition Workshop under the guidance of Emmanuel Nunes, in October 2005.

He attended several instrument Masterclasses in the following cities:Viana do Castelo, Lisboa, Guimarães and Caldas da Rainha under the orientation of Levon Mouradian, Vaclav Bernasek, Peter Bruns and Paulo Gaio Lima. He also participated in a Contemporary Chamber Music Workshop organized by Jeunesse Moderne, which took place in Chambery, France, in 2005. In 2006 achieved an Honorable mention in the  Fernando Lopes-Graça Internacional Composition Contest with O Lobo, o Capuchinho e a Avó, a piece for small orchestra.

At the end of the year 2006 he was accepted in HAMU in Prague , for the ERASMUS  Project where attended Jiri Hosek´s and Tomas Hula´s classes, in Cello and Chamber Music, respectively. He also participated in the School´s Orchestra Concerts in the Rudolfinum auditorium.

He also collaborates as an instrumentist in several orchestras such as Sinfonietta de Lisboa, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon Film Orchestra and more recently with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra.

In 2008 he was invited to write a piece for Double Bass (Intermezzo) for the Prémio Jovens Músicos (Young Musicians Award).- In the field of contemporary music he collaborated with Ensemble Plim, as an instrumentist, and with Algarve´s Orchestra as a composer. At the present day he is a member of Contemporaneus both as composer and instrumentist. Amongst the maestros who he worked with are Peter Rundle, Muhaij Tang, Rudof Barshai, Jean Claude Casadesus, , Guillaume Bourgogne, Lawrence Foster, Christopher Bochmann, Rui Ribeiro, Roberto Perez, Paulo Lourenço, Pedro Amaral e Vera Baptista, Pedro Carneiro, Pedro Neves and Pedro Amaral.
