The concerto No. 1 for piano and orchestra, dedicated to José Viana da Mota, received the Award for Composition of the Círculo de Cultura Musical, in 1940, and had its première in July 4th, 1941, at the Teatro Nacional de S. Carlos, Lisbon, played by the Spanish pianist Leopoldo Querol and the National Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pedro de Freitas Branco.
