GLOSA DESCONCERTANTE (2004) – Guitar This work was written under the recent influence of Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra (2003). This Glosa desconcertante stems from Francis Kleyjans “Chanson pour Delphine”, which was a key work in the guitar development motivation of my ex-student Nuno Sá, to whom it is dedicated. There are no exact quotations from the Chanson in this work, apart from recollections of our memory, little passages that are develloped as the piece unfolds. Language is very idiomatic, continuously drifting between the modal and the atonal, through the use of intervals, characteristic of those languages. All kinds of duration and rhythm are based on the Fibonacci series. The song growth is built through mutable and immutable modules, harmonies and tessitura’s that alternate pictorial and spoken perception. The work, premiered by Nuno Sá in Scotland, in 2004, is at an 8th grade level.
