Hélder Sá was born in 1980 in Porto. He began his musical studies with violin teacher Lourival Monteiro. In Oporto Music Conservatory he studied with José Luis Delerue, A. Cunha e Silva and Malgorzata Wierzba.
In 2003 he studied in the School of Music and Performing Arts in Oporto (ESMAE) with the teachers Zofia Wóycicka in violin, Ana Mafalda Castro and Ryszard Woycicki in Chamber Music and António Saiote in Orchestra. He graduated in 2007.
Later he deepened his studies at Aveiro University, completing a Masters Degree in Performance under the guidance of Anibal Lima and Evgueni Zoudilkine on "The Russian violin school of the twentieth century and its presence in Portugal." Still at the same institution he concluded a Masters Degree in Music Education on “Studying Studies Op 20 Kayser”.
Hélder Sá attended courses with Gerardo Ribeiro, Daniel Rowland, Radu Ungureanu, Vadim Brodsky, Roman Nodel, Benjamin Schmid and Tatiana Samouil and studied with Jossif Grinman and Vadim Feldblioum.
Beyond the academic arena, Hélder Sá worked with several orchestras in Portugal: Orquestra de Câmara de Pedroso, Orquestra Sine Nomine, Filarmonia de Gaia, Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Orquestra Académica do Porto, Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, Orquestra do Norte, Filarmonia das Beiras e Orquestra do Algarve.
Some of the conductors with whom he worked were Kamen Goleminov, António Vitorino de Almeida, Leonardo de Barros, Manuel Ivo Cruz, Ferreira dos Santos, Eugénio Amorim, Mário Mateus, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, António Saiote, Cesário Costa, Pedro Neves, José Ferreira Lobo, Marc Tardue, Omri Hadari, Yuri Nasuchstan, Jean-Marc Burfin, Giulliano Carela, Bruno dal Bon, etc.
He taught in Felgueiras Music Conservatory, Vilar do Paraíso Music Academy and currently is a violin teacher at the Music School “Óscar da Silva” and the Academy of Music in Santa Maria da Feira.
Hélder Sá graduated in Civil Engineering in 2003 from Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) and also works as an engineer.
