João Delgado´s musical activity is mainly centered in his work as violetist. Born in 1978, in Porto, Portugal. Studied at Viseu and Lisbon Conservatories, at the Lisboa Superior Music School and at the Castelo Superior School of Arts. He attended several master-classes with Alex Klein, Daniel Rowland, Maria João Pires, Michael Bochmann, Artur Pizarro and Gareguin Aroutounian, among others.
He finished his Master dissertation in Performance (viola) with Distinction (20/20).
Delgado was dedicatee or co-dedicatee of several works for viola solo and chamber music by composers like Sérgio Azevedo, António Pinho Vargas, João Pedro Oliveira, Jaime Reis, Pedro Amaral, Eduardo Patriarca, César Viana or Christopher Bochmann.
He has had opportunity to play solo or chamber music with several musicians such as António Rosado, Morgan Szimansky, Gustavo Delgado, José Corvelo, João Aboim, Carlos Canhoto, Fausto Neves, César Viana, Miguel Ivo Cruz, Filipe Quaresma, Dejan Ivanovic, Marina Pacheco and João Crisóstomo, amongst others.
He was artistic director of the Belgais Centre for the Study of the Arts (project of the pianist Maria João Pires) and its Children´s Choir.
He authored the program “Cds e LPs” on the portuguese national classical radio - Antena 2.
He collaborated as invited tutti viola with orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra or Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, among many others, led by conductors such as Michael Zilm, Alex Klein, César Viana, Miguel Graça Moura Ferreira Lobo or Christopher Bochmann.
With the São Roque String Quartet, among other musical groups or solo, he has performed in the main Portuguese concert-halls, as well as in Mexico, China, Ireland, Andorra, England, Spain, France and Luxembourg. He also participated in numerous international festivals (Porto Capital of Culture 2001, European Capital of Culture Cork 2005, Beijing Youth Festival, Morelia International Music Festival, Estoril Festival, Capuchos Festival, Expo Zaragoza, among others).
João Pedro has participated in the recording of several albums (São Roque Quartet, Sinfonia B Orchestra, Síntese - Contemporary Music Group, Solo Viola, João Roiz Ensemble, etc.), and his concerts were broadcasted on radios and televisions in Portugal and abroad (RTP2, Antena2, RTP1, RTP Azores, TV/Radio Zaragoza, Radio Michoacan Mexico, TVMichoacan Mexico, Nuevo Leon TV, etc.).
He is a member of João Roiz Ensemble, which is the resident chamber ensemble of the Castelo Branco city-hall. He is also a member of the Síntese - Contemporary Music Group, with which he has performed in numerous concerts and several premieres of Portuguese composers´ works. Within this group, he has also co-organized several editions of Síntese - International Contemporary Music Festival.
He´s a PhD researcher in Performance (viola) at the University of Évora.
