PREFACE
In the XXI century, we can say that the classical music’s place in society has changed and gets to be questioned by many professionals of the music world, scholars and researchers. We are talking about changes of the social role of classical music in contemporary societies, but not only: the places where this type of music is played, interpreted and disseminated or broadcasted have changed; the musicians, composers, students and interpreters’ technical knowledge and skills have changed; the way of composing and the technologies available for this purpose have also changed; and so has the public itself changed, their knowledge of music, and specially the way they consume music as an art, a product and as entertainment.
Thus, it is undeniable that the challenge of composing in this ever changing and technologically advanced world is understood differently for musicians and composers today than it was for the previous centuries’ composers. Today it is important to seek a balance between the previous, more traditional and classical work forms, and the possibilities that new technologies and contemporary artistic currents allow.
It was to this challenge, the one of a constantly changing society that questions the role and place of the art, the music and the artist, that Francesco Luciani tried to answer with this work. The work “12 Studi” presented here is directed to contemporary guitarists seeking new musical stimuli and technical challenges. The studies were composed with a sonority thought especially to the classical guitar and have different degrees of difficulty and levels of technique. They were also written based on Luciani’s experience as a professional guitarist, guitar teacher, composer and student of great music masters.

PREFAZIONE
