Hugo Xavier Almeida began his musical studies in 2010 at the Sintra Music Conservatory (CMS), in the course of trumpet; In 2016 moved to the School of Music Nossa Senhora do Cabo (EMNSC) where studied trumpet and composition in the class of the teacher and composer Jaime Reis. Throughout his career as a composition student he has participated in composition workshops, attended lectures and contacted composers such as: Dimitris Androkopoulos, Barry Truax, John Chowning, Agustin Castilla-Ávila, Candido Lima, Nuno Henriques, Sara Carvalho, Evguine Zoudilkine, Sérgio Abdalla, Ake Parmerud among others.
In 2017, , his Tocata for trumpet solo "New textures in an old knowledge" won honorable mention in the 8th Edition of the Composition Prize sec. xxi in Viana do Castelo, and in 2018 his solo electronic work on octa-fonic system "Save me from myself- office routine" was played at Aveiro_Síntese electroacoustic music festival along with works by Jorge Peixinho and Cândido Lima. Within the scope of the festival Days of electronic music, in an exchange between the schools of music Emnsc and AEMCN, were played his piece "Ignominia" for small ensemble , winner of the 1st Composition Competition of the Students Association of the EMNSC, and "Routine" version for one trumpet and electronic.
In the present year he entered the Superior School of Music of Lisbon in the Composition course.
